Understand who can read your data.

Files are encrypted before upload. Where they are decrypted, and whether the provider can recover your account keys, depends on the options you choose.

Decryption and recovery

With client-side decryption (CSD) and provider-held recovery disabled, file and chat content is decrypted on authorized devices. The server stores ciphertext without a usable content key.

Server-side decryption (SSD) sends the key to the server for that delivery. Provider-held recovery also gives the operator an account-key recovery path. Both options require trust in the provider.

Sharing and its limits

Set link permissions, passwords, and expiry dates. Revoking access stops future server delivery; it cannot erase copies or keys a recipient has already kept.

Account, routing, sharing, and resource metadata remain visible to the service. Public Sites pages are intentionally unencrypted.
